What is the best visitor health insurance? What is the best health insurance for B2 visa holders? As there are many different visitors health insurance products available from different insurance companies, it can be overwhelming to select the best health insurance for foreign visitors to the USA.
Patriot America Plus is the best visitors insurance USA plan on the market, and the following reasons are why.
Advantages of Patriot America Plus
Even though some of the features listed below are also available in other U.S.-based insurance plans we sell, no other plan has so many excellent features at an affordable cost like Patriot America Plus. In fact, some of the points below are intended to convey the advantages of buying insurance from the U.S. compared to the disadvantages of buying from overseas companies.
Large and Widely Recognized PPO Network
Patriot America Plus insurance participates in the United Healthcare PPO Network. As soon as you complete a purchase, you will receive a virtual ID card by email. The health insurance ID card shows the PPO logo on it. Whenever you visit a provider, they will ask for your insurance ID card.
The United Healthcare PPO network of providers (doctors and hospitals) is the largest network offered by any visitor health insurance plan. Providers are located in every major area of the U.S. When you go to any doctor in the network, please mention that you have a United Healthcare PPO Network plan, as the doctor sometimes may not be aware of who administers the plan or the name of the plan, Patriot America Plus. When you go to the doctors and hospitals in the network, they will use the insurance card to contact IMG and verify the benefits. IMG can pay the provider directly if it is determined that it is an eligible expense (covered expense in the policy). They will also charge only the Network Negotiated Fee (NNF), which is a discounted fee in many cases. That means Patriot America Plus insurance is the most widely accepted plan in terms of network providers, and provides the greatest savings in terms of network negotiated fees.
Many overseas products don't provide health insurance ID cards. Also, you would need to call the headquarters of your insurance plan before going to the doctor, pay the doctor or office yourself, wait until you return back to your home country to file a claim using all of the bills and receipts received while abroad (along with the proof of return such as passport stamp), and then you may get reimbursed in local currency, instead of U.S. dollars.
Acute Onset of Pre-existing Conditions
For people below the age of 70 years, Patriot America Plus provides coverage up to the policy maximum for an acute onset of pre-existing conditions and up to $25,000 for emergency medical evacuation.
Claims/Administration in the U.S.
IMG has a reserve of money to pay claims, and is based in Indianapolis, IN, USA. They do not need permission, nor do they have to wait to receive money from elsewhere before paying your claims because they have a reserve. Payment is also made directly in U.S. dollars.
Administrators of overseas companies have to wait until they have been paid first, then you/provider are reimbursed; which leads to more hassles and a significant increase in the time spent resolving your claim(s). By the time claims are settled, collection agencies may already be after you for payment owed.
Customer Support
Support is available 24/7 for emergencies and evacuations. Customer service is available during regular business hours, almost the entire day, Monday through Friday.
If you need to visit a doctor, you don't have to call overseas first for approval. Just go as you normally would, and take your insurance card with you.
Coverage Type
IMG has comprehensive coverage plans for all ages.
Many overseas products are comprehensive only up to age 55 and fixed coverage after age 55. This is not usually explained or mentioned even in the brochure (stated only in the policy wording). This may come as a shock to the customer when a claim occurs.
Cost
While this is an important factor, please do not make it the only factor taken into consideration before purchasing visitors medical insurance. Many times, what you pay is what you get. It may be worth spending a few dollars more to have a lot better coverage; the prices for Patriot America Plus are quite comparable to other similar comprehensive coverage products.
Extension
Patriot America Plus can be purchased for as little as 5 days and can subsequently be extended for as little as 5 days. The coverage is continuous, the deductible is annual and you are just making payments in installments.
Therefore, Patriot America Plus is very flexible in case you are not sure how long you may need the insurance, you don't have the budget to pay everything up front or you decide to stay longer than originally planned.
Refund
Patriot America Plus gives a full refund if cancellation is requested any time before the effective date of the insurance.
After the effective date, as long as there are no claims filed since the effective date, Patriot America Plus refunds the pro-rated amount for the remaining duration minus $50 cancellation fee.
Outpatient Benefits
Patriot America Plus will pay for any new medical conditions, sicknesses, injuries or accidents that may occur after the effective date of the insurance. This also includes outpatient benefits such as doctor's office visit, outpatient prescription drugs, X-rays, discount prescription drug card, etc., in addition to the inpatient (hospitalization) benefits.
Some overseas plans may be just hospitalization coverage and offer no other coverage types.
Underwriter
Patriot America Plus is underwritten by SiriusPoint Specialty Insurance Corporation. SiriusPoint Specialty Insurance Corporation currently has a rating of A- "Excellent" by A.M. Best and is highly qualified to protect you on your next international trip.
